Vincas

Vincas may have fewer petals than many other flowers, but they make up for it in the intensity of their colors, like those shown below. Their height is generally from one to two feet tall.

They are sun-lovers, so give them full sun.  In the past, growers in Houston had trouble with Vincas, as they were susceptible to disease, particularly fungus issues, but in the last several years, newer varieties have been developed that can do well here. A particularly good one is the Cora variety.  The ones in the photo are that variety (not all Cora Vincas are that color — a number of other colors, such as pink, purple, white and others are available.)
